Mark your calendars everyone. The Avengers Half Marathon sign up is on April 12 9 am pacific standard time. The Avengers half marathon weekend consists of several races during November 11-November 13 2016. There are Kid races, a Captain America 5k, A Doctor Strange 10k, and the Avengers Half. If you sign up for the Infinity Gauntlet Challenge (the 10k and the Half Marathon) you get an extra cool medal for finishing both races.
I ran the Infinity Gauntlet Challenge last year.I highly recommend it. Plus where else can you run a race and see your favorite super heroes like Captain America, Black Widow, and Thor pose with you along the race course. If you’re a comic book fan and love to run this race is for you.
Thanks for reading and I hope this inspires you to sign up for a race 🙂
I am a proud geek. Love shows like Arrow, Daredevil, and Agent Carter. I grew up watching Batman the animated series and X Men the animated series too and let’s not forget all the great Comic Book movies in the last couple years. At the same time as well as being a geek I’m a girly girl too. I love dresses and heels and having my hair all curled, so you can only imagine my excitement when I heard about the new Marvel line by Her Universe at Hot Topic.
It has a great pinup style look to all the pieces and a retro glam vibe.
I rushed to the store the minute it came on sale. The online store is sadly sold out. I ended up getting the Loki dress, Captain America dress, and Black Widow jacket. The detail is amazing.
My favorite has to be the Loki dress. I love the detail of the head pieces around the edge. It’s very geeky, but subtle. You can dress it up with heels like I’ve done or down with flip flops and a denim jacket. As for dress sizing I’m usually a size 8 and found the medium in the Loki and Captain dress worked well. Unfortunately the Black Widow jacket I had to size up to a large since It was too tight to wear over a sweater. If I was wearing the jacket over a thinner top the medium would have worked. I didn’t get the other three pieces in the collection. The Thor sailor dress is darling though and so is the Tony Stark bomber jacket. The Black Widow dress is 60s mod chic, but not my style.
I highly recommend checking out the collection in stores and if you are a geeky gal or have a geeky gal in your life definitely get a piece or two from the collection. Thanks for reading and have a Geektasic day!
For the innagural Avengers Half marathon last year I decided to run as Captain America. I had a blue running tank from Forever 21 and a blue sparkle skirt from Sparkle Athletics. All I needed to do was make a red and white waist cincher and sew on a white star.
I cut out a star using a star template and sewed it on by hand, trying to use an embroidery looking stitch.
As for the waist cincher, I didn’t have a pattern so I basically cut out long strips of white and red fabric. I cut out 5 pieces of white fabric and 4 pieces of red. Each piece was about 8.5 inches long and 5 inches wide. Now the bad thing was that I didn’t cut the pieces at an angle to create a waist definition. I had to improvise by cutting the last two end pieces at an angle to create the waist definition. I highly recommend if you are going to create a waist cincher use a pattern as a guide. I used velcro and sewed two snaps on the cincher, it was the easiest thing to do when you’re a beginner sewer.
Here is the final look. The bow I got at a geek craft fair, I unfortunately can not remember the vendor. Any red, white, and blue ribbons will work or you can use a Captain America helmet.
The race was great. Lots of characters were out from Thor, Hawkeye, Captain America, and Black Widow. The only down side of the race it was so windy, all the mile markers were being blown down and at one point I was running with my eyes closed on a dusty trail. I honestly wish I had decided to run with Captain’s shield, that would have been very helpful against the blustery winds. All in all though I had a great time. The medal was absolutely gorgeous and I was thrilled to add it to my collection. I look forward to running it again this year!
